New Article Marketing Case Study
By MMJ admin on Feb 10, 2011 in Article Marketing
I’ve just set up a brand new page on one of my travel niche websites which is focusing on a keyword with 33K searches per month in Google (according to Google’s Keyword stats.)
There are 207K results for an “in quotes” search on Google.I will be building links to this page only with my article marketing services (I won’t include it in Linx Boss.) I’ll be updating in the comments every time I send out a new article and I’ll also be updating with the results (search rankings and how many links in bound links are showing up.)
In this case study I will not be pitting the article marketing services against each other like I have in the past, instead it will be a test of how all five of them work together.You can find a step by step of my article marketing submission strategy HERE (this post is from May of last year but I’m still using the exact same process today.)
A Quick Summary:
I use Magic Article Rewriter to write & spin my article. I then submit my article to each of these article submission services:
2. ArticleRanks.
3. Article Marketing Automation.
4. SEOLinkVine.
My starting point is clear: I have no rankings for this page – it not even indexed as of this moment – and it has no links (aside from an internal link from the homepage – which is a PageRank 2, btw; this is not a particularly strong domain.)
Any gain of rankings and links that are found will be because of my use of article marketing services because I will do no other kind of link building.

I’m just getting the first article for this case study up today (I’m lazy – one of the big pluses to the way I make money – focusing on organic search – is that once I get my income streams working I don’t have to do that much to keep the cash coming.)

Very interested in this test, it was something I was wondering myself.
If only the FTS interface could be improved, my god is that thing awful.

Still haven’t got up another article (although I did write one… I just haven’t sent it out yet – you see, I really am very lazy… and I hope that helps you to understand the power of these tools that I recommend – I really feel that I am living the dream — lately I have been spending very little time working and still making plenty of money … and I love it!)
… Oh yeah so anyway.. my point here was to give you an update on how this is working out. With just one article out there my page is already ranking at #16 for an important long tail keyword (“brand name” review) and #98 for the big target keyword (“brand name.”) … now #98 isn’t going to get me any traffic but that seems pretty encouraging for just one article that I’ll probably still get more juice out of (it takes awhile for all of the link power to show up!)

Hi Catherine — I agree! The FTS interface is horrible. I really hate the way it’s set up (I hate having to manually go through and “choose” my blogs… and hate even more when I have to “re-choose” them!) … but that said – it does seem to work pretty well.

I’m finally getting a 2nd article up today!

Are you experiencing any drops in traffic with your Article Distribution system due to the recent Google algorithm changes?
I’m used to doing typical article marketing, and if going the route of using article distribution sites seems more logical (and Google proof), then I’m certainly switching gears!
What’s your take on this?
Thanks.

I’m working on a 3rd article today (I’m trying to not be quite so lazy!)
I just checked and it now ranks #13 for “brand name review” on Google.
MMJ admin | Mar 3, 2011 | Reply
Hey Avy: I haven’t seen any decrease… I don’t really get very much direct traffic from these techniques (very little, in fact) — the whole point of this kind of article distribution is to gain higher search rankings for my target pages and I haven’t noticed any decrease in its effectiveness as of yet…

I should mention that I’ve also done my share of EZineArticles.com submissions … over 800 in fact … and I don’t really do that anymore – I think this is a far more effective way of spending my time.

UPDATE:
#12 for brand name review
#72 for brand name (main target)
~~~
I haven’t actually got that 3rd article up yet and there’s a delay getting the 2nd article up on UAW due to some confusion (which I’m trying to work out now) … so I’m very excited about the rankings I should be getting for these keywords once I get more articles up!
I’ve finally gotten the 3rd article up (just now)
I’m seeing improvements in Google rankings:
#10 for brand name review
#53 for brand name
~~~
pretty damn good for just two articles (with the second probably only barely taking effect at this point.)

Good info.
Question: If you were just starting out and on limited funds…which would you tap into first? Most bang for the buck?
I use Ezines and even though it is free, I haven’t gotten much bang.
Thanks.

Update
#10 brand name review
#56 brand name
~~~
not much doin’ … still I’m pretty confident that with more articles and some patience I can get a top 10 ranking for the brand name.
Depending on how much money I’m actually seeing from it; I would put in the extra effort to get it up even higher than that.
Rob:
If I had to choose just one to go with it would probably be UAW.
If funds are very limited you could try the free version of Free Traffic System.
EZineArticles is not a good way to build links. The only thing it’s really good for is direct traffic (ranking in the search engines and then link to your sites in the resource box) and I’m not really sure it’s worth doing it for that reason anymore either. I barely ever use it anymore (I used to use it a lot.)
Hey MMJ
This sounds like what I am doing with my backlinking plan. Initially I was doing manual article submissions coupled with web 2.0 and blogs, then added ArticleRanks, then UAW and this week FTS. A total of 6 weeks has gone by and I am at #14/15 on Google. I did purchase 750 directory submissions via Submitedge a week back and will ad their profile links service next week.
Keep up the ggod work with this blog! Good info!
10th article going out now… Google updates:
#10 for brand name review
#27 for brand name
slight upward ticks…
I’ve made a total of $60 in commissions … but it should be noted that I’m also linking to other things… the links to this particular page only represents about 1/3 to 1/4 of the benefit I’m getting from these article submissions.
MMJ admin | Jun 14, 2011 | Reply
Made $32 more in commissions since last update.. up to $92 total.
An uptick in Google rankings too:
#8 for brand name review (+2)
#24 for brand name (+3)
planning on sending out the 11th article on Monday.
Another $14 in commissions yesterday – $106 total now… this thing seems to be starting to click – it may be time to ramp up my efforts and see what happens.
$38 more in commissions – $144 total – I’m starting to get excited about this project… It’s nice when a “case study” actually leads to real MONEY results. I think most people who have been in the internet marketing world know that most things you try simply don’t work out for one reason or another… that’s just the way things are. But this looks like a winner… and article marketing is the reason I’m getting these rankings and making these commissions. So yes, very nice indeed.
And no, I still haven’t got out that 11th article yet (WTF am I waiting for? — well I have a bunch of other things on my to do list… but maybe I should move this up the list.)
Hey Dave – let me know what you think of SubmitEdge’s work.
I’ve never really been satisfied with outsourcing results but I’m not sure if I’ve tried SubmitEdge yet.
Finally got article #11 up (although not yet on ArticleRanks – they are making some changes… mostly improvements… which I have to figure out…)
FTS is also making changes… they now allow you to send your article out to 100 blogs… that sounds good right? And I guess it is… but the problem is you have to “choose” every single one of them. Quite tedious.
MMJ admin | Jun 30, 2011 | Reply
$28 more in commissions – $172 now total.
Updated Google Rankings:
brand name review #8 (no change since June 25)
brand name #25 (-1)
I really want to push this thing to the next level. I plan to get at least two more articles out next week.
I think this could be a significant money maker.
