Bum Marketing With My Diet Affiliate Program
By MMJ admin on Jul 7, 2008 in Bum Marketing
This is a little step by step on how to do bum marketing with my diet affiliate program. Obviously you can use these same methods to promote any product in any niche. But I think using a specific example is good and obviously if I’m going to use a specific example it’s going to be for my program!
You will earn approximately $36 for each sale you refer. This may change in the future as I’m still considering different price points. One plan includes adding an upsell which could raise the amount you earn. But I may also try adding a downsell at some point which would lower commissions in those cases - but if it raises conversions enough then it would be worth it of course. What really matters is the overall ROI (return on investment) or $ per hop.
As motivation I want you to think about how much money you would earn by referring an average of 4 sales per day. That would be approximately $124/day or $45,000+ a year. Is referring 4 sales a day easy? No. It’s not, but it is definitely possible if you put in the work. Bum Marketing is not for the lazy! And it’s not even necessarily for the cheap. In my view it’s a long term plan, particularly if you do it in the way that I suggest. With Pay-Per-Click you are constantly having to adjust your campaigns and constantly getting outbid by competitors. It’s a huge headache in my opinion. I don’t really like the whole PPC world. I prefer the slower but more long term approach of bum marketing. With PPC you have to constantly be worried about how much money you are spending on your ads, obviously that’s not a concern with bum marketing.
You will need two things to be successful as a bum marketer:
#1 A landing page that effectively pre-sells the product.
#2 Targeted traffic.
Six Free Places You Can Set Up Landing Pages
1. Blogger.com
2. Wordpress.com
3. Squidoo.com
4. Hubpages.com
5. Clearblogs.com
6. Wetpaint.com
Two Not Free Places You Can Set Up A Landing Page
1. USFreeAds.com, Despite it’s name, the only way you can get a decent landing page is by paying $9.99/month.
2. Your own domain on your own web host. I recommend Host Monster. You can host as many domains as you want with one account and you can register extra domains (with free privacy) for $10 each. The included free privacy makes it cheaper than using GoDaddy. While this will cost you a bit of cash, I really think it’s an intelligent long term plan. Your own domain is something that can build a tremendous amount of value over the years. I will recommend that you link all of your free landing pages back to your own domain.
What Should Your Landing Page Be?
This depends greatly on what sort of keyword phrase you are targeting with your landing page (more on keywords later.) But in general people have a lot of success with “review” landing pages. You can either compare one product to other or give the pros and cons of one product by itself or have rankings of 3 or more products. Here’s an example of a landing page promoting my diet product.
How Should You Link From Your Landing Page To The Salesletter?
I recommend using a javascript redirect if you have your own domain. There’s more info on that at the diet affiliate program page. While I do recommend this, I do not think it’s entirely necessary in this niche. Most people don’t look at the links the way us marketers do. Most people will never notice anything strange about this link: <a href=”http://www.yourclickbankid.dayoff.hop.clickbank.net”>Download The Diet Now</a>. They will just see “Download The Diet Now” and not think anything of it. You must realize that your potential customer is probably not nearly as computer literate as you are.
Linking
I think it’s a good idea with your free landing pages to include a link back to your landing pages on your own domain. You could bury this link deep in the copy - something like “for another review on …. click here.” This may even help you make some extra sales as the curious people who haven’t been convinced yet may be convinced by your other landing page. But my main reason for telling you to do this is that you can get extra SEO power to your own domain by doing this.
Now You Need Traffic
There are two big (mostly) free ways I’m going to suggest to get traffic to your landing pages. Articles & Social Bookmarking.
Article Marketing
EZineArticles.com - EZine Articles is totally free (at least at this time) and it’s the grand-daddy of article sites. You can include two links back to your landing pages in the resource box. I recommend writing short articles (250 words is the min.) that tease more than inform. Remember that your whole purpose is to get the reader to click on your links. Keyword research is very important when selecting a title for your article (and also for selecting titles for your landing pages.) There will be more on keyword research below.
ISnare.com - I use ISnare.com mostly for links back as there’s usually not much direct traffic that is gained from using it. This is for SEO purposes. I don’t want to go into SEO too much as that too big of a subject to cover here, but simply put more links back to your sites is a good thing and means you’ll get more search traffic to your site. Search traffic is excellent very high conversion traffic, so yes you definitely want it. An example of how you would do this: Create an ISnare.com article titled “Lose Weight Fast” which links to three landing pages (they have 3 link limit) that also have titles with the term “lose weight fast” in them. You want to link using that the words that you want to show up in the search engines for. The text you use to link to your pages is called “anchor text.” ISnare is not free but it is quite inexpensive, less than $1 per article distributed if you buy in bulk.
SubmitYourArticle.com - This is something I’m just starting to use now but I’m very impressed with the early results. It’s also mainly for SEO purposes. It’s $37 a month so it may be something you want to wait on until you get money coming in. Article Submission Service is similar to Submit Your Article except that you pay per article ($12 each.) This can be a good way to get a lot of different links back to your pages very quickly. The cool thing about both of these services is that you can “spin” your links to make go to different pages and with different anchor texts. I didn’t mention this yet, but you don’t want to use the exact same anchor text back to your pages every time - that will look spammy to Google so don’t do it. Mix things up.
Social Bookmarking
I recommend using social bookmarking on all of your landing pages and also on your EZineArticle articles.
These are some of the social bookmarking sites that I like: Propeller.com, Digg.com, Del.icio.us, Faves.com, Wists.com, Kaboodle.com, Mister-Wong.com
There are many more, but quite a few of them I’ve found to be a waste of time. Another tool you may want to look into when you have the money to afford it is Bookmark Generation which automates a lot of the tediousness of social bookmarking. It’s a new service that I’ve only been using for a few days - but I’m already seeing the usefulness of it.
There are other bookmark automation services such as OnlyWire.com that I haven’t had much success with, as far as I can tell they don’t really work.
Keyword Research
When you title your articles & your landing pages you need to consider keywords. What are things that people actually search for? But you should *not* just title your articles with the most common searches as there is way too much competition for common searches. What you want to do is go after “long tail” keywords. Terms which are searched for but not so often as to make the competition too high.
How do you find these long tail keywords? You put a simple term such as “diet” into this keyword tool. Click on a term that interests you such as “healthy diet” here you will begin to see some terms that may be suitable for targeting. For example “Balanced Healthy Diet” has a 33 WordTracker count (that’s the first # on the left.) That’s in that sweet spot you should be looking for. More than 15 and less than 100 is what I would look for.
Create an article called “Balanced Healthy Diet” on EZineArticles.com - the article should convince the reader that the attributes of the diet you our promoting (my diet product) are the attributes they should be looking for in a healthy diet. Emphasize the fact that the diet boosts metabolism. Emphasize the fact that it teaches the dieter to eat the right foods rather than simply starving themselves. Emphasize that they will burn fat while building muscle.
In your resource you will say somethign like:
<a href=”http://www.mylandingpage.com”>Try This Balanced Healthy Diet</a>.
<a href=”http://www.mylandingpage2.com”>Product Name Review</a>.
“Product Name” should obviously be the name of the product and not actually “Product Name.”
