Article Marketing Search Engine Saturation Test (Unique Author Name)

I’ve come up with a new idea on how to test the strength of each of the article submission services that I use. I’m going to be using a similar strategy to what I’ve used to show the power of Unique Article Wizard in the past.

In the past I’ve only used this approach with Unique Article Wizard because it’s the only article spinning submission service I use that includes an author name so that I could create a unique author name to track how many times that name shows up in the search engines (which shows me how many different indexed pages my submission shows up on.)

But I’ve realized that I can actually do the same thing with the other services if I include a unique name somewhere in the body of the article (I could also use some sort of unique phrase, but I think coming up with a weird unique name is the easiest way to do it.)This is what I’m going to be doing with this test which is going to include all five of the article submission services I’m currently using as a part of my link building strategy.

This is a step by step on how I’m going to be doing this:

(1) Write/spin an article with Magic Article Rewriter. I always use this software as it allows me to write/spin an article just once and then use it for all of my submission services. This particular article is actually also going to be a part of this project and it’s going to be promoting ArticleRanks in particular.

(2) Submit the article via Unique Article Wizard with a unique author name. What I mean by “unique author name” is that it has to be a name which currently has zero results in any of the search engines. That way when I search for the name in the future I will know that any results that show up for that name were from my UAW submission. This allows me to see how many of the pages that have my article on it are actually being indexed by the search engines.

And since I am going to share this unique author name with you on this page, this will allow you to follow the results of this test yourself.

UAW unique name: “Vernon U. Huffington” — If you search the search engines right now for that name (with quotes of course) you will find absolutely zero results (besides perhaps the page you are reading right now.) This is a unique name I am not going to use for any other articles so any results you see for this search are coming from this single UAW submission.

(3) Submit the article via SEOLinkVine. This service (like all of the others besides UAW) does not include an author name area so what I’m going to do is include a sentence about how you can test the power of article marketing services by including a unique phrase or name somewhere in the article. I will then give an example “such as _____.”

SEOLinkVine unique name: “Vernon S. Huffington” — Each of these unique names I’m creating currently have ZERO search engine results. Remember to use “quotes” when searching for yourself.

(4) Submit the article via ArticleRanks. “Vernon A. Huffington” is the unique name for this service.

(5) Submit the article via Article Marketing Automation.  “Vernon M. Huffington” is the unique name for this service.

(6) Submit the article via Free Traffic System.  “Vernon F. Huffington” is the unique name for this service.

Yes, I Know

In an attempt to discourage people from leaving annoying comments where they tell me things I already know:

Yes, I know that the amount of indexed results from a test like this isn’t a huge amount of information to really go on. It doesn’t tell me the quality of the pages that these articles are on or how much weight the links back have (although it does let me see exactly where my articles are ending up.)

But I still think this is a good way of making sure that each of these article marketing services are actually working as advertised. I do this even though I’m quite confident in these services (some I’ve been using for quite some time) because I think it’s important to make sure things are still working quite frequently (as things often change in the internet marketing world rather quickly.)

If you want proof of actual search engine rankings from article marketing then take a look at this “Article Marketing Loop” project.

  1. First day and I’m already starting to see some results for some of these Vernon Huffingtons!

    Check “S” … good work SEOLinkVine!

  2. Day 2:

    Pages Indexed In Google
    (Not Counting This One)

    SEOLinkVine: 7
    ArticleRanks: 2
    FTS: 0
    UAW: 0
    AMA: 0

    Quick start for SEOLinkVine – it’s too early to be worried about the zeroes for FTS, UAW, & AMA – the articles may not have even been sent out yet.

  3. Interested to see the results, I have a few subscriptions and I am really thinking of dropping some, but we shall see with this test. Keep up the good work. :)

  4. 3rd Day Update:

    SEOLinkVine: 7
    ArticleRanks: 2
    AMA: 2
    FTS: 1
    UAW: 0

    Now there’s at least one indexed result for everything but UAW… which is probably the service I’m least worried about as far as it’s effectiveness – I’m totally convinced of UAW’s power (in fact I now pay my membership yearly instead of monthly.) UAW just takes a couple of days before the submissions go out which is why there are no indexed results yet.

  5. Unique Article Wizard has jumped out into the lead with 8 indexed results in Google.

  6. Update:

    UAW: 16
    SEOLinkVine: 7
    ArticleRanks: 7
    FTS: 6
    AMA: 3

    I’m a little disappointed with the numbers from AMA so far, but everything else looks pretty good… and Unique Article Wizard looks great.

  7. interesting results so far mmj admin. It is good to see what kind of results you get, as I need to see which services are worth it.

    How do you spin your articles? What do you find gives you proper results?

  8. Hi, I am here in the Netherlands and run through google.nl (which is known to be a bitch on certain backlinks from other areas) and Vernon U has 16 links and Vernon S. only 2 here. I am working with LinkVine for quite some time now but I might have to add UAW… Do you know by the way where I can find the cheapest UAW article writers?

    Rest of the results on my end:

    Vernon M. 2
    Vernon A. 6
    Vernon F. 6

    Co de Naam | Aug 2, 2010 | Reply

  9. Co da Naam – I don’t know about that because I write all of my own articles (from scratch.)

    Thanks for the results… looks pretty similar except for the disparity with “S” …

    UAW is now up to 34 results btw… it’s really running away with this thing.

  10. James –

    I use Magic Article Rewriter to write & spin my articles. I don’t really use any of it’s “magic tokens” or any of the other time saving things… I’ve just found it easier for me to do it by hand. I’ve always found that when I try to do any kind of automatic spinning that so much garbage is made that it takes longer to clean it up than to just do it from scratch.

    What I like about Magic Article Rewriter is that I can export my articles in all of the different formats that I need. There are three different formats that I need: UAW & SEOLinkVine use one style {version 1|version 2}, AMA & ArticleRanks use another {version 1~version 2}, and then finally FTS uses another [spin]version 1|version 2[/spin]

    MMJ admin | Aug 4, 2010 | Reply

  11. Hi James,

    Right… I use the best spinner which works okay for me. Also, in Linkvine you can use any format by the way… It converts it automatically into the format you indicate, but you can dump any format in there and it will convert it automatically…

    Update on the stats:

    Vernon S has 17 today
    Vernon U has 26
    Vernon M has 6 (but Google indicates duplicate content on this one by the way)
    Vernon A. has 14
    Vernon F. has 17

    So UAW is still leading the pack.

    Co de Naam | Aug 5, 2010 | Reply

  12. Well MMJ Admin & Co de Naam I use thebestspinner, but I was asking in terms of uniquenesss.

    What I currently do (which is time consuming and probably unnecessary) is to write 3 original articles. For those article i will spin each sentence 3 times, then go back and spin the words. I then submit to the 3 services I use.

    I haven’t really done a proper test because I am lazy :)

    For MMJ admin what is the spin structure do you use for the articles in this test? I could save myself a whole lot of time if these articles are being indexed, even though they are not spun crazily.

    James | Aug 5, 2010 | Reply

  13. Hi James,

    Wouldn’t it be easier to first spin the words and then the sentences? In the Best Spinner you always see the original sentence and adding a new spinned sentence becomes very easy then… But I don’t know what you are using…

    Co de Naam | Aug 7, 2010 | Reply

  14. My unique % is usually around 80% to 100% (as rated by AMA / ArticleRanks etc.) and around 50% to 60% as rated by Magic Article Rewriter.

    Update:

    Unique Article Wizard: 68
    FTS: 34
    ArticleRanks: 24
    SEOLinkVine: 21
    AMA: 10

    I’m really pleased with these numbers. AMA isn’t looking quite as hot – but that’s still not bad.

    MMJ admin | Aug 10, 2010 | Reply

  15. I checked it again today…

    Vernon S has 20 today
    Vernon U has 70 (smoking!)
    Vernon M has 8 (but Google indicates duplicate content on this one by the way)
    Vernon A. has 19
    Vernon F. has 32

    Co de Naam | Aug 12, 2010 | Reply

  16. Co de Naam – they always indicate some duplicate content – the only reason you see it with “Vernon M” and not the others is that there are fewer results so that indication is seen on the first page… It’s not really something I would worry about.

    For anyone who is curious about actual search rankings from using my approach – check out this other case study where I’m getting good rankings entirely with article marketing:

  18. Hi James,

    Here another update:

    Vernon S has 30 today
    Vernon U has 87 (still smoking!)
    Vernon M has 18
    Vernon A. has 25
    Vernon F. has 34

    SEOLinkVine and UAW won the most… LinkVine is also promoting a lot to get more blogs… But UAW is so far the big winner (although also the most expensive I believe)

    Best, Co

    PS… Interesting other fact. I had a site that was ranking okay (for a pretty new site) on the 5th page of Google for a not too hot keyword. The day I submitted an article to EzineArticles and got it approved and pinged the article, the page the article is linking to, went from page 5 to number 1 in Google.

  19. latest results:

    UAW: 97
    FTS: 35
    SEOLINKVINE: 30
    ArticleRanks: 26
    AMA: 22

    nice jump for AMA from 10 to 22… (since my last update on August 10) … UAW is dominating… up from 68 to 97 (another +29) … also +9 for SEOLinkVine (21 to 30) … ArticleRanks only has 2 more listings (24 to 26) and FTS only 1 more (34 to 35) but FTS is still in second place overall.

  20. Here another update:

    Vernon S has 33 today (only won 3)
    Vernon U has 123 (WOW!)
    Vernon M has 22
    Vernon A. has 29
    Vernon F. has 36

    Well, I guess UAW might be the most expensive product, but it is definitely delivering!

    Co de Naam | Aug 23, 2010 | Reply

  21. Yeah man… I’ve been great results from UAW for a long time.

    I actually have a yearly membership with them now.

    But for me it’s not so much about finding the ONE thing that I need to use – it’s more about making sure that everything I use is at least somewhat effective — the best results come from combining multiple link building tools — that’s why I use all of these services.

    I could get good results with just UAW probably – but I’m sure I get better results by using all of these services in conjunction. It greatly increases my link profile so that I’m getting links from many different sites…

    That said, if I only had the money for one service, I’d have to go with UAW because of how consistently well it’s done for me.

    MMJ admin | Aug 23, 2010 | Reply

  22. UPDATED RESULTS:

    Unique Article Wizard: 123 (+26 since Aug. 17)
    Free Traffic System: 35 (no change)
    SEOLinkvine: 30 (no change)
    ArticleRanks: 25 (-1)
    Article Marketing Automation: 22 (no change)

    UAW is really lapping the field. In fact their 123 is more than the other four combined (112) …

    But still even the worst performer (AMA with 22) is doing pretty darn good. I think these are all good services and I plan on continuing to use all of them because of what I wrote above about creating as varied a link profile as possible.

    MMJ admin | Aug 26, 2010 | Reply

  23. And in fact, I’m always on the lookout for more submission services such as these (particularly those that will let me link to adult content like AMA does…)

    MMJ admin | Aug 26, 2010 | Reply

  24. Speaking of submission services, do you have any experience with contentcrooner.com?

    Co de Naam | Aug 29, 2010 | Reply

  25. One of the reasons that UAW is so far ahead is because they do not really drip feed the articles more send them in batches. Within a few months I can see the other services increasing this count while UAW slows down.

    Musa | Aug 29, 2010 | Reply

  26. Co de Naam – I was a member with them when they had a different name (ArticleMarketer) and I wasn’t a huge fan… then they changed their name (and split into two companies) and didn’t even really tell us they were going to do it so I quit it… I may join again in the future if I hear good things about it.

    It’s been over a month now. Another update:

    UAW: 177 (+54 since August 26th)
    SEOLinkVine: 34 (+4)
    AMA: 33 (+11)
    FTS: 31 (-4)
    ArticleRanks: 31 (+6)

    Of course the most noticeable thing is how Unique Article Wizard is just destroying the competition… the other noticeable thing is that AMA and ArticleRanks are still building and have now caught up with FTS/SEOLinkVine.

    One of the cool things about AMA and ArticleRanks is that they keep sending out articles over a long period of time…

    MMJ admin | Sep 1, 2010 | Reply

  27. Also I’d say 30+ is pretty damn good for one submission. All of these services have been vindicated by this case study for me. I am definitely going to continue using all of them.

    MMJ admin | Sep 1, 2010 | Reply

  28. Musa – you can control the feed with UAW.. I just leave it at the suggested 50 usually… but you could drip them out very slowly if you wanted to.

    But you’re right that with AMA and ArticleRanks they continue to drip them out overtime and that possibly given enough time they would even catch UAW… we’ll see. I’m going to keep checking back on this test to see what the long term results are.

    MMJ admin | Sep 1, 2010 | Reply

  29. Yes, UAW is definitely smoking… And by the way, also LinkVine is dripping over the years as long as you keep your articles active…

    Co de Naam | Sep 2, 2010 | Reply

  30. Yes – you’re right – I should have mentioned that SEOLinkVine also drips “forever” … I’ve had some weird mixed results with SEOLinkVine so far though (you seem to have to pick lots of categories to get many articles sent out… and I’ve had some articles go out to a lot of sites, and others to not very many at all)… so I’m not quite as gung-ho on it as I am AR and AMA.

    MMJ admin | Sep 3, 2010 | Reply

  31. Another update:

    UAW: 190 (+13 since Sept 1)
    AMA: 40 (+7)
    SEOLinkVine: 37 (+3)
    ArticleRank: 34 (+3)
    FTS: 31 (even)

    Really nice comeback for AMA… earlier on it looked to be struggling but now it’s up to #2. Nice to see that even over a month later there are still more and more being indexed for all of ‘em (except for FTS…)

    Vernon S has 40
    Vernon U has 190

    So it starts levelling out now on my end. The results are pretty much the same…

    FTS: 30 (-1)

    Unique Article Wizard continues it’s domination. If you’ve only got the time/money to join one of these services – it seems pretty clear which one it should be.

  34. Very nice study. Besides UAW, the other 4 seems pretty similar in terms of getting submissions indexed by the search engine.

    How would you compare the quality of the user interface for AMA, SeoLinkVine, ArticleRanks and FTS? Is one of them clearly much easier to use than the others?

    For myself I got quite used to using UAW interface – but that took a few weeks to get proficient and integrate with some other personally written software.

  35. Some big movement since my last update (just 4 days ago) … really nice to see how I’m still getting new indexes from something I sent out almost two months ago.

    UAW: 215 (+8 from Sept 19)
    AMA: 64 (+28)
    SEOLinkVine: 45 (+9)
    ArticleRanks: 42 (+8)
    FTS: 35 (+5)

    nice across the board… of course Article Marketing Automation really had a big boost… if you look up above you will see I was a bit worried about AMA’s slow start, but it’s doing great…

    MMJ admin | Sep 19, 2010 | Reply

  36. A Reader:

    I prefer AMA & Article Ranks for their user interface (they are quite similar to each other) … my least favorite user interface is FTS … SEOLinkVine is OK but it’s a little clunky… I don’t like the way you have to select multiple categories with them to get lots of submissions and I’ve noticed a wide variety in how much some of my submissions go out … I may not be making the best use of out of it actually…

    UAW’s interface is kind of clunky too… I’d probably rank it above FTS, but below all the rest. Of course… with results like this, I don’t mind!

    But yes… as far as user interface goes to me AMA & ArticleRanks are really lapping the field.

    MMJ admin | Sep 19, 2010 | Reply

  37. Another Update:

    UAW: 230 (+15 since Sept 19)
    Article Marketing Automation: 81 (+17)
    SEOLinkVine: 48 (+3)
    FTS: 41 (+6)
    ArticleRanks: 40 (-2)

    Beautiful! Still growing! Particularly impressive is the way AMA has really come alive over the past two updates. This is an important lesson to give things time to see how they develop.

    Another interesting thing (I think) is to just check plain ol’ VERNON HUFFINGTON without any “quotes” and without the middle initial… by looking at the rankings we can see which services are putting my articles on sites that Google gives the most love to…

    This is a good indication of how much “link juice” these sites give out… and it’s also an indication of the likelihood of actually getting direct traffic (this is not something that’s a high priority for me – but if you go for very long tail titles that have been properly KW searched – this kind of direct traffic could add up.)

    If you search for this now you should see that this very site is #1… the first result from the article is a UAW submission at #7… here’s all the results I see in the top 50:

    UAW: 7, 14, 17, 21

    AMA: 9, 19, 25

    FTS: 11, 22, 32

    SEOLV: 18, 20, 40

    As you can see UAW comes out on top again with 4 in the top 50… AMA, FTS, and SEOLinkVine have 3 each… ArticleRanks doesn’t have any in the top 50… with it also being last in total saturation (with 40 results) it’s looking like the loser… but that said, I still really like ArticleRanks and it’s done very well in some other tests I’ve done.

    There are so many variables to consider, there’s a chance that if I did this test again (in a different niche) that I would get very different results. In fact, I should probably do that.

  38. This is really great!
    Thank you very much MMJ admin, I have some questions:

    Does the word count matters? Obviously spinning a 500 word article will take 2 times more than spinning 300 word article, writing too!

  39. Update:

    AMA: 102 (+21)
    SEOLinkVine: 50 (+2)
    ArticleRanks: 41 (+1)
    FTS: 37 (-4)

    Seems to be UAW as a solid #1 and AMA as a solid #2 with the other 3 back in the pack…

    I still use & recommend all five of these services. But I think this case study does indicate that if you have limited resources joining UAW & AMA should be your top priority.

  40. Hey Vusal – Sorry for the late response – I’ve been busy! — but no, it doesn’t seem to matter. I always try to shoot for just over 300 words (the minimum required for these services.) Why do more work than necessary?

    AMA: 100 (-2)
    SEOLINKVINE: 53 (+3)
    ARTICLERANKS: 43 (+2)
    FTS: 37 (-)

    not much movement… but there’s also no indication that I’m losing any significant amount of links. It will be interesting to see how these numbers hold up over the very long term (like a year.. or two years from now.) I’m going to keep coming back to this from time to time.

  45. UPDATE:

    Unique Article Wizard: 223 (-36 since Oct. 26)
    Article Marketing Automtion: 108 (+8)
    SEOLinkVine: 49 (-4)
    ArticleRanks: 43 (—)
    Free Traffic System: 40 (+3)

    Bit of a drop for UAW but it’s still way out ahead. Definitely something I’ll keep an eye on.

    AMA keeps climbing. If you look up towards the first couple results, AMA was a slow starter but it’s made up for it since then.

    Ce de Naam – no I’m not seeing that drop from FTS… It actually gained 3 for me since last time. Which I’m happy, I think 40 indexed results for one article submission is pretty damn good – so if it’s the worst performer with those numbers, I’m very pleased.

    And no, I have actually never used the UAW resubmit option … I probably should use it! I just haven’t for some reason or another.

    If I resubmit it, I’ll post an update here on that and see how it goes.

  47. Hi MMJ… Are you going to resubmit now?

    Co de Naam | Nov 25, 2010 | Reply

  48. Co de Naam – I’ll get to resubmitting today.

    I am seeing a drop in the UAW #s, I suppose the duplicate content filter is finally catching up.

    UPDATE:

    UAW: 95 (-128 since November 7th)
    SEOLinkVine: 55 (+6)
    AMA: 48 (-60)
    ArticleRanks: 44 (+1)
    FTS: 37 (-3)

    Big drops for UAW & AMA … still when I look at these numbers overall (37,44,48,55, & 95) I’m very happy with the saturation level I’m getting this far into the experiment. You have to expect some filtering out from Google (depending on how much you spin… my spin level is usually around 60% using Magic Article Rewriter.)

    MMJ admin | Dec 1, 2010 | Reply

  49. Interesting, I already saw the drop… If it would be because of the duplicate content, I know how to solve that I think… I have been doing some tests myself and I think that there is a way to write one article in a format that it is practivally impossible to see it as duplicate content. That article could be used over and over again if treated in a specific way. Will keep you posted on this if you are interested in the results… The spin percentage on that would be “100%+” I would say… I haven’t seen anybody using the method that I am using… Maybe an idea for a product?

    Co de Naam | Dec 2, 2010 | Reply

  50. Thanks for posting this case study. It’s invaluable.

    Sadly, it’s inevitable that most of the pages will get deindexed (or ended up in the supplemental results) simply because they have no inbound links and most of them are zero PR sites. Even if they have unique content, they would probably still end up in supplemental results or deindexed.

    If you’re promoting new sites/domains, this can cause a negative effect because having huge drop of links like this would trigger the spam filter and your site could possibly get penalized (or worse sandboxed). So it’s crucial to keep adding & submitting articles and let it run for at least 3 months – 6 months.

    By the way, what’s the number of directories did you set to send out per day in UAW?

  51. Zack, I usually go with 50 per day on UAW.

    I just joined this thing LinxBoss which I’m hoping will actually work really well with my article marketing, especially now that I’m learning more about this “L4L” thing… (where they build links to your other links) … this would take care of part of what you are talking about.

  52. I’ve finally resubmitted the UAW article… I’m not really sure I did it correctly so we’ll see… I’ll be updating here with how it goes.

  53. I saw that UAW is back at 113 today… You might want to check the rest on your end…

  54. UPDATE

    UAW: 113 (+18 since December 1 — resubmitting it seems to be giving me some good results.)

    SEOLINKVINE: 80 (+25 — I’m surprised by this… I’ve noticed that SEOLinkVine seems to work very well in some niches – like this one apparently – but in other niches I can hardly get any articles up… still it’s easily worth it’s monthly price for the niches it does well in.)

    AMA: 47 (-1)
    ArticleRanks: 43 (-1)
    FTS: 34 (-3)

  55. Update:

    UAW: 292 (+179 since Dec. 14)
    SEOLinkVine: 123 (+43)
    AMA: 47 (—)
    ArticleRanks: 45 (+2)
    FTS: 33 (-1)

    ~~~
    It looks like resubmitting via UAW is working wonders… I could do that with a bunch more articles I have and looking at these results I definitely should take the time to do that. UAW was already my #1 recommended article marketing service before taking advantage of this tool… so yeah. Amazing!
    As far as SEOLinkVine — I’m very surprised by how well it’s doing. Like I mentioned – it seems to do very well in some niches but horribly in others. If you work in a lot of niches like I do then it’s definitely worth your time/money.
  56. Another Update:
    UAW: 424 (+132 since Jan. 4)
    SEOLV: 223 (+100)
    ArticleRanks: 53 (+8)
    AMA: 51 (+4)
    FTS: 40 (+7)
    I’m surprised to see such strong gains at this point for all of them but really shocked by SEOLV’s +100 … I’m not really sure what is going on with that but it certainly looks encouraging.
    Also extremely impressed by the power of UAW’s resubmit feature (which I somehow managed to never use before… even though I’ve been with them for a long time…)
    Just wrote a post about it: http://www.moneymakerjobs.com/resubmitting-with-unique-article-wizard/215/
  57. Update:
    UAW: 496 (+72 since Jan. 19)
    SEOL: 246 (+23)
    AMA: 51 (—)
    ArticleRanks: 47 (-6)
    FTS: 38 (-2)
    I should note that when you actually try to look through the results Google shows considerably less … for example it only shows 19 of the 38 results for FTS: “In order to show you the most relevant results, we have omitted some entries very similar to the 19 already displayed.”
