Link Popularity
Link Popularity. What is it? In simple terms it's how many people are linking to you. In more complex terms it's a combination of the the amount of links and the quality of those links. For example a link from CNN.com would be worth far more than a link from a no name low PR blog or directory.
Why is link popularity so important? Because it's the #1 factor in determining where your site will rank in the search engines. And getting your websites to rank highly in the search engines (for important keywords of course) is perhaps the best way to make lot of money online.
How can you check your link popularity? There are a few methods. I like using this one because you can check your site against others and get an idea of where you stand. You can also use Yahoo's Site Explorer or the Webmaster Tools inside of your Google account to check on your back links. Back links? They are the links that are linking to your website.
How can you get link popularity? Well there are many ways. Here are five:
#1 Buy Text Links. You can buy text links from a website such as text-link-ads (currently offering $100 in free links.) Why would you do this? It's fast & easy. Why wouldn't you? It can get expensive. It really depends on your budget whether buying text link ads is right for you.
You can also contact sites directly and ask them if they would sell you links. You may be able to get some good deals using this method. But you will most likely also experience a lot of rejection and price haggling. Whether you want to do this depends on how much time you want to spend.
#2 Article Submissions. Submitting articles is a great way to get links back to your site. Basically you write an informative & interesting article (or get one written for you) relating to the topic of your website. You include a link (or links) in your article or in the resource section (depending on where you are submitting it, there are different rules for different places.) Of course these links are very strategic and headed right to your website.
Some possibilities for article submissions:
ISnare
JetSubmitter
Article Submitter Software
#3 Link Exchanges. These are best if they are on topic. I've used the Link Machine program with some success. It can help automate the process and help you to find good on topic link partners. Be careful with mass link exchanges where you're supposed to get 1000s of links at once. Those can do more harm than good. An important part of link building is to make it natural. Or it should at least appear natural!
#4 Directory Submissions. You're probably best off submitting to a few high quality directories rather than a lot of low quality ones. An example of a high quality directory: V7N Web Directory.
#5 Social Bookmarking/Link Bait/Viral. This basically involves creating really interesting unique content that's so good that people tell their friends about it & book mark it on social bookmarking sites like del.icio.us & digg.com
